Thank you so much to everyone who attended, supported and contributed to last week's event. We had a fantastic turnout from students across Cohorts 1 and 2, alongside our new intake from Cohort 3. It was wonderful to see everyone taking the opportunity to network, share experiences and learn from one another.

We were incredibly lucky to hear from Catherine Lodwick, a SCIP alumna from Cohort 1, who delivered an inspiring presentation about her journey through SCIP, the opportunities she has embraced, the many awards she has received, and her progression towards a PhD.

We also heard research project presentations from current and recently completed students, Katie Meakes, Goda Zerlauskaite and Florence Smith. You all did an incredible job. Presenting your work can be daunting, but each of you delivered your presentations with confidence, enthusiasm and expertise. It was truly inspiring for everyone in the room.

A special thank you also goes to Dr Kate Lippiett, who brought the event to a close. Her reflections left us all feeling motivated and inspired about the impact and importance of research.

I have attached the presentation slides shared during the event, along with the Buddy System QR code and links to Dr Helen Aveyard's current books, which she discussed during the opening presentation.

One final favour from me: if you attended the event but did not have the opportunity to complete an evaluation form, I would be very grateful if you could do so here: SCIP Welcome Event 2026 evaluation – Fill in form
